Happiness Is A State Of Mind

Happiness Is A State Of Mind

“If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” - Dolly Parton

When we hear the word “happiness,” It seems pretty simple to give the definition to that. According to google, it’s an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment and fulfillment. When I hear this word, it’s not as simple as that for me. It can be somewhat of a complex answer. I can be having a rather “dark” type of day but maybe have a memory pop up or a split second of happiness wash over me then still be rather sad.

Happiness really is a state of mind!

It’s a skill you learn and try to practice the rest of your life. Now don’t get me wrong, it can be very hard to find or do. Everyone has been through some sort of heartbreak in this lifetime. This time of year, the weather is cold. The sky is gloomy and the memories of loved ones that are no longer with us as we start the new year can be hard. It almost seems hopelessness is easier to find rather than happiness. The thing about happiness though is: it can be found in the simplest of things. The sun on your face, being out in nature, that first bite of a chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven, warm hot cocoa by the fire or even the new season premiere of your favorite show. Happiness can be found just about anywhere but it’s up to us to seek it out.

It’s not measured in what you have but what you feel. Look at it this way.. Happiness will always win and that my friend is beautiful.

I love hearing from other people and their perspectives on certain things. Happiness can look or feel like many different things to one another. Here’s a few answers I received back when I asked some of my friends what happiness means to them.

“Happiness is an emotion. It comes and goes throughout life. Joy, on the other hand, is a choice. I can choose joy even when I’m not feeling happy. I love getting to feel happiness but I can’t choose or make myself feel it. I can, however, choose joy that is rooted in Jesus. With that comes a peace that surpasses anything I could ever hope for or imagine.”

“Seeing the people that I love happy. Also, knowing when everyone is home safe.”

“I have experienced it but it's been so long I don’t know what it looks like anymore. But I’m growing into a new person so maybe true happiness looks different to that person. I won’t know true happiness until I become who I am suppose to be”

“Being in control of my energy and time. If I have those in control and aligned right, then I know I have the right folks around me. I’m moving the way I should and things that I value are getting the proper time and attention.”

As you can see, happiness comes in many forms and different times of our lives. I hope you can find happiness in this world that seems full of chaos sometimes. Whether it’s for a split second on a rough day or an everyday consistency, it’s a feeling that is so worth searching for.

What are some ways you find or create happiness for yourself? We would love to hear in the comments.

    Our 2021 Holiday Gift Guide

'Tis the season for gift giving. I personally love giving gifts! Picking out a thoughtful gift, wrapping it, and later watching someone open it is the best. We put together a guide with fun ideas for everyone on your list. A few of these businesses are local, but most of them are available to shop online, if you aren’t local. We've included some for the health conscious people in your life, as well as nontoxic products, and one of our favorite local clothing and jewelry shops.

    We love our NICU families!

    We love our NICU families!

Are you a family who has had experience in the NICU? Whether you have or you have walked alongside a family in the NICU, you know that it can be a scary place to be, especially during months where sickness and germs are spreading easily. You desperately need to keep your friends and family healthy as you care for your little one, even in the days after you come home. For the past couple years, we have offered our Elderberry Syrup free to NICU families, as a simple way to support them during a difficult season. We have countless stories from our NICU customers about the courage, strength and miracles their families have experienced. It’s a blessing to hear the stories and to be a small part of it!

We are excited to announce that we are relaunching our NICU Family Program! This is a way that NICU families can receive our products FREE in the first year of their baby’s life. Here’s how you can participate:

    1. Email us at info@theelderberryco.com with the subject “NICU Family Program”. In the email, tell us a little about your story, including your first name, last name, email, phone number and the date your baby was born.
    2. We will send you a gift card for $100 to use throughout the first year of your baby’s life on any of our products in store or online at theelderberryco.com. You can choose from our best selling Elderberry Syrup, Elderberry Gummies, Wellness Tea and more! These products aren’t for baby, but can be used by your immediate family and friends to keep them healthy for lots of baby snuggles.

Community is so important when you are going through a difficult season and while we may not be in your inner circles to walk with you through your NICU experience, we are blessed to be able to support you through Elderberry Syrup! The peace of mind it gives me as a mom in keeping my family healthy is why I started this small business and why we have our NICU Family Program. We hope it blesses you and your family!

Please share our NICU Family Program with anyone you know who could benefit from it! If you have any questions, please email us at info@theelderberryco.com.

Merry Christmas from The Elderberry Co Team!

    How do you say “thanks”?

    How do you say “thanks”?

It is the most wonderful time of the year. People are together as the weather calls for unity. Why? Because it is cold and there is nothing better than being cozy inside with the ones you love and appreciate. We are in the season of giving and loving. It seems this time of the year we value our family and friends more with our actions and words than any other time of the year due to the natural state of thanksgiving and Christmas. Covid put a dent into those plans in 2020 but as things loosen up a little here and there, we can be more present with the people we love.

Here are a few ways you can show up and show your gratitude to family and friends this season.

    • Create something memorable for someone you care about. Holding onto something that was personally made always brings joy to someone's soul. It’s the thought that counts, the effort put into a gift just for them.
    • Cook a meal for them, there is nothing more hands-on than someone taking the time to cook a meal to fuel the body. Even if it’s full of carbs, it’ll fuel their love for your efforts to make something that is tasty.
    • Write a note with some intentional details on how you view them. Receiving some kind of affirmation always is a peace that reminds someone they are seen and cherished. Use your words to captivate just how valuable they are to you.
    • Come up with a way to get some pictures taken with your family or friends. Photos are worth a thousand words and those photos can be held onto for ages. A short time of taking pictures communicates to someone special that you want to create memories you can look at for a lifetime.

Whatever you may do, do it with love. Show up for the people you are thankful for and simply spend time with them.

There are tons of ways you can communicate to someone that you are thankful for them. Please share some creative ways you plan to do that for people this holiday season.

    The Joy of Giving

    The Joy of Giving

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” -Calvin Coolidge

Miles for Merry Miracles (M4MM) is a youth-led and youth-driven organization that partners with the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and many other local organizations to provide gifts and food for Angel Tree children during the holiday season. After starting as an Eagle Scout project in 2008, M4MM has assisted in sponsoring over 2,000 Angels.

Being able to bless these young kids is a true gift! Knowing that we can help in what seems a small way to us, means something so much bigger for them. To be able to serve in someone’s life that may not be able to receive the everyday things they need, can make a heart so full.

The mission of Miles of Merry Miracles is to improve and enhance the communities through youth development and wellness initiatives. This is their 14th year of helping out our community! The Elderberry Co. is very honored and excited to be a part of this wonderful organization this holiday season.

We have an Angel Tree right here in our shop, located downtown New Albany Indiana.

We will have plenty of little angels on the tree. So to our locals, feel free to stop in starting on Friday, November 12th to get yours. All of the information will be provided on each angel which represents one child. This specific organization is asking for clothes and accessories only this season. The local Wal-mart has kindly set a specific day for anyone to come in and do their shopping for their child.

That date is set for November 20th, which is Global Family Volunteer Day!

The time to shop that day is 9am-6pm.

If you are not local to us, feel free to check out any Wal-mart or Sam’s Club near you. They have an angel tree every year. You can also shop online for an angel https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/walmart-angel-tree/ Or donate directly to https://give-do.salvationarmy.org/give/372005/#!/donation/checkout

How are you and your family spreading joy this Holiday season? We would love to hear in the comments.
