The Magical Land of Lost Toys Packages…

The Magical Land of Lost <strike>Toys</strike> Packages…

If you’ve been online shopping at all this holiday season, chances are you’re probably waiting on a package that has yet to arrive. In fact, you probably just checked your email to see the “status” of that gift you bought on Black Friday thinking “gosh, I should have gotten that by now”. I know I’m still waiting on seven candles I bought back in mid-November from a very well-known candle company! Fingers crossed they arrive before Christmas.

You’ve probably seen news articles about how many major carriers, including the one we use (USPS) are experiencing significant delays and often many packages just being declared as “lost”. As a small business who relies HEAVILY on USPS to complete our customer experience, this month has been tough to say the least. There’s not a ton we can control once that perfectly packed box of elderberry syrup or gummies leaves our hands and begins its journey to our customer. For the most part (about 99.6% to be exact), USPS does FANTASTIC at getting our products into the hands of our customers, but just like most things in 2020, our experience lately has been a struggle: lots of delayed and lost packages, lots of disappointed customers.

As a small business with real people, we value like crazy every single one of our customers. I was just sitting in a meeting with my Customer Care Team last week and listened to their stories of helping our customers get their orders in a timely fashion. They genuinely care about each customer and don’t just see an order number but a person with a story about how our elderberry products have impacted their family and kept them healthy.

What I am in AWE over is how many of our customers have been patient and gracious with us as we sort out exactly where their package is and why their syrup went to Hawaii before its destination in Ohio (it’s happened). While we can’t control everything USPS does, we can control how we respond, and it is always with kindness and generosity, focused on relationships. We wouldn’t have grown this business without our customers so it is our customers we take care of to the best of our ability.

So I just wanted to hop on here and tell you, our customer, THANK YOU for your patience and grace. Thank you for trusting us to keep your family healthy. Someday we will learn just where all those lost packages went...I’d like to think they are all just hanging out on the beach with a mojito in their hands (humor me) waiting for this pandemic to be long-gone. Who knows :-)

As always, thank you for supporting our small business!

    -Jenny

I’ve never tried Elderberry Syrup.  What can I expect in my order?

I’ve never tried Elderberry Syrup.  What can I expect in my order?

Maybe you’ve heard that Elderberry Syrup is good for you, but you aren’t sure what to expect with your order.  We’ve got you covered!

    Quality.

Elderberries have gained a reputation for keeping families healthy. That’s the whole reason our owner, Jenny, started this company. We exist to empower healthy families to fullness and freedom.

Our elderberry syrup is made with 6 natural ingredients—Elderberries, Aronia Berries, Raw Local Honey, Ginger, Ceylon Cinnamon and Clove.   That’s it!  We are really proud to provide such a high-quality syrup to our customers!

    Quick Service and Free Shipping.

We offer free shipping with USPS Priority Mail.  Once you’ve placed your order, we get busy prepping your product.  Each jar is sanitized, labeled, and dated by our incredible team.  Because we want to provide you with the freshest product, we make our syrup many times each week and all orders ship within 3 business days.  Once it leaves our shop, it takes USPS 1-4 business days to get your package to you.

    Packaging and Refrigeration.

Our shipping team is the best!  They take great care in packaging our products so you will receive them in excellent condition.  Each jar is wrapped in layers of brown paper and bubble wrap.  It is boxed and labeled by hand.  We’re on a first name basis with our Postal Carrier since we ship so many packages each day!

When you receive your syrup, we ask that you place it in your refrigerator because it provides you with the freshest product for the duration of its shelf life.  But some customers wonder if their product is safe since it can’t be kept cold during shipping.

Our syrup is certified as “non-potentially hazardous” which means that it does not create a hospitable environment for harmful bacteria to grow. The instructions to store in the refrigerator are for the purpose of quality and freshness, not safety.  Being outside of the fridge for even up to a week will not compromise the safety of our product.

    Shelf Life.

Our syrup lasts 30-60 days in your refrigerator, and we always write 45 days from the day we produce the batch on our jars. We recommend using or freezing the syrup within one week past the date on your jar to ensure it doesn't spoil. Frozen syrup lasts 6-8 months in the freezer.  Some of our customers even freeze their syrup in ice cubes trays so that their daily doses are already portioned out!

    Consistency and, well, Consistency.

One of the things we hear a lot is how happy our customers are with the consistency of our syrup.  Our repeat customers are happy that they can count on the same great taste and quality each time they place an order!

But one of the questions we get a lot from first time customers refers to the consistency of our syrup.  It’s called a syrup—isn’t it supposed to be thick?

We don’t use any preservatives or glucose, and the only thickening agent we use is honey. Because of this, our syrup is juice-like in consistency, rather than thick like pancake syrup.  We say it is sweet from the honey and should taste a bit like Christmas from our spices!  We are committed to providing the highest quality syrup to all of our customers, and a lack of thickness does not indicate a lack of effectiveness.  In fact, there are approximately 800 milligrams of elderberry in each tablespoon dose!

    Kindness

One of our core values at The Elderberry Co. is kindness.  We treat others the way we want to be treated.  We show up every day and give our best to provide you, our customers, with a delicious, high-quality syrup.  We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve you.  It is one of our greatest joys.

Would you like to try our syrup?  We are having a summer sale where you can save 15% with the code SUMMERFUN at checkout for a limited time! Code cannot be combined with bundles, subscriptions or any other discount. Valid online only.

    You asked, we listened.

    You asked, we listened.

A question we get asked a lot is why do we have a storefront now? Our storefront is a BIG deal for us.

First: It gives us the chance to meet our customers face-to-face. Some of you all have been customers since Jenny started in her home. You trusted a woman with a baby on her hip and a toddler running around to keep your family healthy. Two years later, you still support her family, her hopes, and her dreams and that means more than you know. You believe in her. So getting to meet you all face-to-face is a joy for all of us.

Second: We get to educate people on the benefits of all things Elderberry. We have so many people every day wander into the store and ask what an Elderberry is. We love that we get to explain to them what we do, why we do it, and how it helps!

Third: There are a few extraverts that work at The Elderberry Co. Most of us would feel trapped in a box behind those walls not getting to talk to the outside world all day. It’s just our personalities to want to talk to people. I know there are other extroverts who feel this, amiright!

At the Elderberry Co, we truly believe there are no stupid questions, only opportunities to learn. There are so many different facts to learn about Elderberry Syrup, especially our brand. We compiled a list of common questions that you all have asked and put them in one giant blog! Emphasis on giant.

    Where are you located?
We are located in New Albany, IN. Right outside of Louisville, Ky!

What are the ingredients in your Elderberry Syrup?
Our syrup contains Elderberries, Aronia Berries, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Honey.

Can you take this while pregnant/breastfeeding?
When it comes to pregnancy, honestly there are not a ton of studies done on it. We have a lot of pregnant/ breastfeeding mommas who use our Elderberry Syrup though! We do believe it is safe for both! We always recommend you do what makes you most comfortable though. For some that means only taking it when they’re sick and others like to take it preventatively. We are mommas not doctors. Not all pregnancies are the same, so we recommend talking to your OB if you have concerns!

How much do I take? Kids?
We recommend a tablespoon a day preventatively or 2-3 tablespoons when actively fighting something for an adult. For kids 1 and older we recommend a teaspoon instead of tablespoon!

Is Elderberry Syrup safe for infants?
Our Elderberry syrup contains raw honey, so it is not safe for babies under 1. The good news is, we sell kits that you can make syrup yourself so that you can omit the honey to make it infant safe!

How many servings are in your jars and how long do they last?
We have three different jar sizes!

    8oz is 15 tablespoons
    16oz is 30 tablespoons
    32oz is 60 tablespoons

Our syrups best buy date is 45 days from the day it’s made. It usually last a couple weeks past the date on the jar. We don’t can our syrup or use any added preservatives. We want to keep it fresh and natural! We believe if you are going to choose a healthy alternative, it needs to actually be healthy.

What if I can’t finish my syrup in time?
The syrup usually last a week or two past the date on the jar but if you can’t finish it in time, you can freeze the syrup in ice cube trays for 6-8 months!

Speaking of ice cube trays. How many Ice cube trays will a Jar hold?
A standard ice cube tray is 12 cubes. Each cube is about 2 tablespoons. So one tray would hold 24 tablespoons.

8oz Jar = ¾th of an ice cube tray
16oz Jar = 1 full tray and ¼th of an ice cube tray
32oz Jar = 2 full trays and 1 half of an ice cube tray

How much does the shipping cost and how long for shipping?
We offer free shipping to anyone anywhere in the US no matter how little or how much you order! We ship our syrup within 1-3 days of you ordering and shipments take 1-3 days to arrive at your door!

    Do you ship it cold?
We test our batches to ensure they are safe out of the fridge during the 1-3 days of shipping! The most it would do is knock the shelf life down a day or two.

We do recommend to get it in the fridge when it arrives to ensure the longest shelf life!

Does it need to be refrigerated?
Yes, we recommend the syrup be refrigerated to ensure the longest shelf life!

Do you have a sugar free option?
We offer our Elderberry Kit that you can use to make the syrup at home on your stove. This way you can omit the honey and it would make it sugar-free!

    What is your Subscription Program?
We offer a Subscription Program where you can subscribe and save 10% on all your orders. You can choose your products and how often you want to receive them. Choose from as often as 1, 2, or 3 weeks or 1, 2, or 3 months. You can change or cancel your subscription at any time through logging into your account on our website.

Why should we choose your syrup over another one?
The biggest difference between our syrup compared to big brand store bought syrups is going to be the fact that we do not use any preservatives or artificial sweeteners and they do. We make our syrup fresh in our store each week and use only organic ingredients. Our syrup is made with 6 simple ingredients, Organic Elderberries, Aronia Berries, Clove, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Honey.

I mentioned this earlier but at The Elderberry Co, we believe that if you are going to take a healthy alternative, it needs to actually be healthy and have ingredients in it that are good for you and your health!

Another big difference is going to be the cost.

For 16oz of our syrup, you would pay $29.99 online with free shipping anytime to anywhere in the US. According to what I found on amazon, for 16oz of one of the big brand syrups, you would pay roughly $63.
