    The Joy of Giving

    The Joy of Giving

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” -Calvin Coolidge

Miles for Merry Miracles (M4MM) is a youth-led and youth-driven organization that partners with the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and many other local organizations to provide gifts and food for Angel Tree children during the holiday season. After starting as an Eagle Scout project in 2008, M4MM has assisted in sponsoring over 2,000 Angels.

Being able to bless these young kids is a true gift! Knowing that we can help in what seems a small way to us, means something so much bigger for them. To be able to serve in someone’s life that may not be able to receive the everyday things they need, can make a heart so full.

The mission of Miles of Merry Miracles is to improve and enhance the communities through youth development and wellness initiatives. This is their 14th year of helping out our community! The Elderberry Co. is very honored and excited to be a part of this wonderful organization this holiday season.

We have an Angel Tree right here in our shop, located downtown New Albany Indiana.

We will have plenty of little angels on the tree. So to our locals, feel free to stop in starting on Friday, November 12th to get yours. All of the information will be provided on each angel which represents one child. This specific organization is asking for clothes and accessories only this season. The local Wal-mart has kindly set a specific day for anyone to come in and do their shopping for their child.

That date is set for November 20th, which is Global Family Volunteer Day!

The time to shop that day is 9am-6pm.

If you are not local to us, feel free to check out any Wal-mart or Sam’s Club near you. They have an angel tree every year. You can also shop online for an angel https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/walmart-angel-tree/ Or donate directly to https://give-do.salvationarmy.org/give/372005/#!/donation/checkout

How are you and your family spreading joy this Holiday season? We would love to hear in the comments.

When Your Business has a Birthday…

When Your Business has a Birthday…

All my life, the month of November has usually been a pretty uneventful month. No birthdays or big events, just Thanksgiving and the anticipation of Christmas. But that all changed when, on November 8, 2017, I posted on Facebook and that one post changed my life. Now, every November, my family and my team celebrate all that God has blessed us with through a small business called The Elderberry Co...that all started with a simple Facebook post.

The story of The Elderberry Co. is nothing short of God’s grace and provision, a beautiful journey of how a small idea founded in kindness has grown into a nation-wide movement empowering families toward healthy lifestyles. You see, on November 8, 2017, I simply asked on Facebook, “Making a batch of elderberry syrup. It is how our family stays healthy, especially through the winter months! Message me if you would like to try a sample!” I wanted to share with my friends and family a solution that I had found to keep my family healthy. From that post, I had a handful of friends who asked for samples. And from there, it slowly gained popularity in my community and I started selling jars out of my home kitchen.

In 2018, I had grown big enough that I needed a bigger kitchen, and I wanted to increase my influence to more than just my local community so I made a BIG move into a commercial kitchen and got certified to sell online (which is where most of you know me from!).

Selling online was CRAZY successful. I needed more hands to help so I started hiring help. And I just have to say, our small team here at The Elderberry Co. is full of the hardest-working and best people in the world. I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate working alongside each of them.

Since our online launch in 2018, we have continued to grow and our customer base reaches all 50 states! There are so many stories I could share about my journey: the balance of motherhood with business owning, learning all the FDA regulations, managing and leading a team. It has been a wild ride! But regardless of all of the bad days, this journey has given my family and me so much joy and fulfillment. The idea that I’ve been able to help empower families across the country with a solution to keep their families healthy is an absolute DREAM. Thank you for coming alongside us and our small business! We hope you can celebrate with us this month as we celebrate FOUR years of this beautiful small business!

Everything You Need to Know About Our Subscription Program

Everything You Need to Know About Our Subscription Program

One of the many things I LOVE about starting, growing and running this business is giving you guys an inside look into our operations. We may have customers in all 50 states and sell MILLIONS in immune-supporting elderberry products, but we are truly a small business. We have a team of 12 people here in southern Indiana who work SO HARD to make quality products and provide exceptional customer experiences. One of those experiences is our Subscription Program. I created this program almost three years ago to be a convenient way to get our elderberry products on a recurring basis, and it is one of the BEST things about our business. I know you’re busy, so I’ll bullet point everything you need to know:

    • Every product you find on our website will have the choice for “one time purchase” or “Subscribe & Save 10%”
    • Simply select “Subscribe & Save 10%” which will ask you to choose how often you would like to receive that product.
    • After selecting your frequency (i.e. every 2 weeks, one month, etc.), select “Complete Subscription”
    • Finish checking out and you are all set! You’ll receive that product on a recurring basis, saving 10% automatically with every order!
    • Want to change or cancel your subscription? It’s super easy! You’ll first need to create an account HERE. Once you create and activate your account, you’ll login and see a “Manage Subscription” button which will allow you to change your next order date, skip an order, apply a discount or cancel your subscription altogether.
    • At any point if you need help, someone from our small team of 12 is here to help! Simply email us at info@theelderberryco.com, and we will be there for you :-)

Our subscribers are the reason we are successful and able to continue growing our business. Now through the end of the year, save an extra 15% (for a total of 25%) off your order when you sign up for a subscription with code FIRST15 at checkout!

Thank you for trusting us to empower your family with a natural and effective way to stay healthy and active. Cheers!

Three Must-Read Books for Homeschooling Mommas

Three Must-Read Books for Homeschooling Mommas

I am not a homeschooling expert…not even close. I started homeschooling last year with my Kindergartener and I was completely surprised that I made the decision to homeschool. Our reasons for choosing home, public or private school vary from family to family and I’m a firm believer that there isn’t a “wrong” answer to how you choose for your child to receive an education. For me, I chose homeschool because I wanted to protect the peace in my family and household. I didn’t want to have to ride the waves of quarantines and new CDC guidelines that schools were subject to in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. I didn’t want my child’s memory of Kindergarten to be masked and socially distanced from his friends and teachers. So I was fortunate enough to be able to keep my kids home with me and we set out on our journey to homeschool.

I am a HUGE believer in community and specifically leaning on the wisdom of mentors and people who have gone before, so I reached out to the homeschooling mommas I knew and started asking questions. I came across three books that helped me so much as I started. If you are new to homeschooling, hopefully these books can give you the tools you need to feel empowered in your homeschooling journey:

    1. Teaching from Rest: A Home-Schooler’s Guide to Unshakeable Peace by Sarah Mackenzie. This was the first book I read and it’s a super quick and easy read. I first laughed at the title because it sounded so flowery and impossible, but the author does a fantastic job at giving you the basics of setting a solid foundation to your homeschool. You’ll learn things like how to craft your “why” behind the reason you are homeschooling. It’s so very good and worth rereading every year you choose to homeschool.
    2. The Call of the Wild and Free: Reclaiming the Wonder in Your Child’s Education by Ainsley Arment. I loved this book for so many reasons. It is BEAUTIFULLY designed and it really leaves you feeling empowered to homeschool. It helped me see that homeschooling wasn’t a lesser option than public/private schools. It also gave me summarized information from different homeschooling philosophies like Unschooling, Charlotte Mason and Waldorf. Like Teaching From Rest, it is an easy read and won’t take too long to go through.
    3. The Brave Learner by Julie Bogart: I’ll be honest, I haven’t finished this book yet (I’m notorious for not finishing books). But what I have read I have LOVED. She gives you practical ideas to implement into your homeschool. For example, this book is the reason we do “Wednesday Workshops” where I surprised my kids with a table full of arts and craft supplies and gave them freedom to “create”. It’s messy but oh so fun.

I hope to share more with you guys about my homeschooling journey. If you are a homeschooling mom, please comment below with any other book recommendations you have found helpful to you!
